Purply Haze background drawing

I have proceeded to start drawing with the background art to give spacial awareness to the characters but also for the viewers to see. I believe having a filled background helps for the viewer to enjoy the animation even more. For the background I already new the a space that I wanted to make so I made a rough concept sketch of the background location.

I have had taken some inspirations from De Montfort University campus as a reference point to create a vast open space. Although I will not be showing the entire space or location for the animation, as only specific frames would show key perspective point, I want to make sure the viewers and I are aware of the location and where the characters are.

With the initial sketch done, I can start drawing the actual background arts for the animation, starting with the basic outline drawing on IbisPaint drawing application.

With the lineart done, I can create a new layer to which I can start filling in the drawing with the bucket tool. Because the line art is done with hard pen, the bucket tool can easily fill out the spaces.

The last remaining part of the background is to fill the footpath and top part of the background art with the brush tool. This is because the bucket tool would not be able to fill out the spaces efficiently as I have used a texutred brush to create graininess in the footpath and so this is where I have manually filled in the space. I also used a lighter colour on this partcular part of the drawing to contrast with the dark colour that will in the space.

And this is the first background artwork done, I already kept the famous cameos and pop culture reference in mind to show in each background art. For instance in this background art the trash bin is the reference to the character from the mobile game 'Among Us'. There will be subtle references and ones that are prominent.
