Character finalized design
After the initial sketches of the first 5 characters, it is time to finalize the ink the characters and create a final character artwork for the art portfolio. For the case of drawing the character, I will be doing it on the IbisPaint and focus on the theme as well at the same time.
The initial thought was to outline the rough sketch into a proper lineart and then include the additional facial expressions to show the thought process for the character design. I completed that and it looked virtually like this.
I also went to draw other smaller details about the character such as the ring and the shoe design. It was then later I scrapped the idea of redrawing the sketch and focus on giving a more official-like drawing for the character. Thus the second outcome to the process yielded this:
This I was much more satisfied with as it was a completely different drawing and also got to concetrate on the outline as well giving much more finer details such as the wrinkles in the clothing. I also ajdusted the lineart colour to purple to remain consistent and moved over to the colouring process. Since the lineart was done with a hard pencil, the bucket tool option gave me the ability to colour the whole character on a single tap. However, the bucket tool is not that powerful and some gaps would remain in the artwork so I took the time to first brush the character first with the colours and then used the bucket tool.
Each of the characters will have their own distinct contrasting colour to easily identify and locate them in the animation. This first character design is complete, at first I was totally focusing on the purple hue only, but then the appeal dropped off quickly and this is why the character has skin colour and complimentary colour on the clothing as well.
This is so far done with one character, the background work will be done later on as that will be properly displayed on the website.
Don't forget to add a post of colour samples / the purple hues and the reason for selecting specific hues.
