Website development and Research

The website development will be done on wix.com, this website developing site is easy to use and I will showing the steps on what I have done regarding my porfolio showcase.

I created my account on Wix and then proceeded to select my website template. On Wix, you can create a website depending in the theme, work or project that needs to be showcased. In my case, since it is a portfolio showcase, I selected the 'Portfolio & CV' category and then chose my theme.

I selected the 'Illustrator Portfolio' as my theme and began constructing my portfolio website.

Before I begin developing my website I want to do some research on how animation websites look like. I will understand and take notes on how the layout is, how the navigation works and what elements are important in animation websites.

For my research I looked at two websites, ghiblicollection.com and blublustudios.com. I will first start off with The Studio Ghibli Collection, by opening the website, the front page is greeted with frames from each movies produced by the animation studio.

The website is simple and easy to understand, and by scrolling down, all the films are highlighted and represented in a grid. In terms of navigation, everything is on the top so that the user to easily select the page. The page called 'Filmography' is essentially the history of the animation studio and shows chronologically the films and the year in which the studio was founded.

The second website I want to look at is the BluBlu Studios, by opening the site, the website is opened with various clips played in the background, much more animation based website where photos transition as through scrolling down.

This website, just like the Studio Ghibli Collection, has all the navigation on the top right corner of the screen. However, unlike the Studio Ghibli site, the naviagtion bar simply transitions away to give more real estate for other contents to display. This may be good for aesthetics point of view, but because the sub menu button is fairly small, the navigation aspect is slightly weak.

Another similarity between the two sites are that the number of pages are the same, but the one I am keen to look at is the 'Porfolio' page, which is exactly the page I will be putting on my site.

The portfolio page displays all of the animations or projects as a gallery and can view a short preview of the animation by hovering the cursor on any of the videos. I believe this is a good element to have in a website so that it can give a hint about what the project is going to be and so therefore it would save time instead of having to click to watch the entire video.

With these two websites researched, I can take elements on about what my portfolio website should be. Animation websites are mostly more pictures and less text, it is more visual represented than having descriptive approach via texts or paragraphs. With that in mind, I can translate some of those features and put it in my website.
