Reflection on my Art Portfolio Terms

Over the two terms, I have received various challenges and tasks which has created the foundation of what I shall perceive in my first year at De Montfort University, and that is to pursue Animation. The two terms have taught me the techniques in ways which I can present my work, how to project my goals, tasks to my audience and how to win their hearts over your goals. In the last project, I have certainly learned a lot about my career path and what I can expect as I embark towards my field of interest.

Through out my first term, I can reflect on the first sting in Digital Arts program, especially when I took the 'Purple Haze' as my theme for the first project. With my animation course, I have come to realization that having the right medium will allow to get the project term done quickly. When I first started animating for Purple Haze project, I was only limited to my iPad. Moreover, the apps that were available was also not sufficient enough to allow me to animate at the quality I desired. However, I did attempt another way to animate which gave me significant amount of experience of animation pacing and quality. When my first term of Art Portfolio was done, I had learned about my timing, management and pacing of my animation project. This allowed me to carry these experience onwards to my second project.

The second term for Art Portfolio rolled and soon I selected a task to select a theme which I was very familiar of, The Ultimate Black. After ganing the much knowledge on animating, I further expanded and decided to go for much more standardised frame rate of animation, to enter the world of animating in which it is recognized in the industry. By that time, I also had a new drawing tablet and activated a new method of animating with shortcuts and quick drawing.

What I can reflect on animating for second Art Portfolio's project is the that I have achieved exactly what I was looking for when I wanted to animate as early as Digital Arts module, being able to animate in the environment where shortcuts, the quality of the drawing and the program that was suited for the work. However, if there is one thing that I would like to improve on is to further understand the movement of the characters, or any subjects where they are drawn consistent so therefore they are belivable to look at.

The first four animations that I drew were satisfactory, especially Ria Black's walking animation, however I would like to further improve upon my drawing and framing to make sure I can be more intricate with the details, especially when drawing at 12 frames per second. Furthermore, Gordo's animation and Demir's animations also had room for further improvements, and with the given experience, I can take those details into account and use those in my future projects.

With this said, I am looking forward to my first semester into Animation and further explore the vast world of animation and learn new techqniques that will be useful, more importantly in the 2D hand drawn sector.
