The technical issues faced
With my animation progress marching on, I encountered the inevitable problem about the animating program, or the lack of, on the iPad. In basic terms iPad, apart from Callipeg which is not free but also not perfectly polished, is among the few animating apps available on the App store. Callipeg is not my preferred drawing program to use has I had done previously on my first term, because it lacked consistency in the strokes and was quite often glitchy. I would have preferred to use a different app on my iPad but unfortunately no decent programs are yet available on the Apple device.
I had to then switch gears to look and try to use Wacom tablets that are available in the Kimberlin Library at De Montfort University. But, unfortunately the tablets are software locked meaning the only program allowed in the university premises are Adobe programs. I then had to resort to other solutions to see if I can find any easy drawing apps which I can use to animate, but it turns out all good animating softwares that are available are based on Windows or Mac devices.
This is perhaps where my search for tablet begins, although I do not have any more time to buy and get up to speed to animate on Purple Haze theme project, in the meantime I will use a more traditional, but very lenghty method to animate via a standard drawing app. In my case I will go back to Ibis Paint where I have drawn the background art and continue to develop each frame individually and export them later in the video editing app.
The reason why it takes much longer is because obviously there is the lack of built-in timeline in the drawing app which makes it harder to scrub and check the flow of the animation. These are the amount of frames I had to draw and make sure I remain consistent as much as I can. Once I am done, I can finally start importing the files on my video editing software, in this case Filmora, and manually put each frame on the timeline.
There is no fine control over the frame rate, I have setteled with the frames being shown on an average of about 0.1 to 0.2 seconds per frame, but fortunately for me the software has multiple timeline feature meaning I can stack images on top of one another which allows me to have much greater control over each subject in the scene.
Another very annoying problem occurred is that my laptop turns out to be 'slow' to scrub through the timeline, it is very difficult to see the video as it lags and slows down immensly while playing back the animation. I have to export the video each time to check how the animation is going which adds even more time to the development. What I find even more strange is that the video is being made with 1280 x 720 resolution, a very small resolution yet the program struggles to playback the footage. Partly because of this there is an urge to replace the laptop just so I do not face this problem in the future.
I have managed to complete most of the animation and exported it multple times to check the timing, the only thing left is the voice over and the copyright free music to be inserted in the animation.
