What do I know? Blog post
In this blog post, I will be asnwering several questions regarding today's task:
What should I be doing in my subject area?
In my subhect area, I will be drawing and learning how to animate. In lame terms, animation is making an object move by redrawing it differently. This is the key core to animation and this is how many of the characters and have come to life by animation.
What skills and knowledge do I need in this subject?
First and foremost important element in animating is having a good understanding on drawing and possessing the ability to draw well enough. Secondly, the basics of navigating and understand the process of animating in any particular software and what frames are and how many drawings are needed to create a piece of animation. It is also important to understand the key basics of layerings, effects and colouring to amplify the result of the animation with any software.
What jobs can I get by studying in this subject?
Animation is still a versitile field, albeit very labour intensive, however, the rewards are very high. In the industry I can lead to become a key animator, or animation director which is in the front row of animation development of any studio. It is powerful as I could get to dictate how the animation would go and what elements cen be added to improve the piece even more.
But despite that, even I have to start from somewhere as a basic animator. It takes significant amount of effort and attention to create a great animation, let alone moving a character. However if there is a point where the struggle is paramount, a basic storyboarding animation is also a very appealing job because it is a lot easier and also more fun.
If I scored myself out of ten, with ten being the highest, how well do I think I know my own subject area?
If I were to score myself out of then, I would rate myself 6. That is only because I have not untapped the potential within me and there is still more ground to discover. Becuase animation is so diversive, and that it does not necessarily rely on 2D aspect either, it can be bent, manipulated and used to show creative ideas in various ways. I believe there is a long road ahead, particularly with the right software and hardware, I can learn a lot more.
A useful insight into your current knowledge - you clearly have a good grounding of Animation and what you want to do in the future.
