Let us experiment
Here some of the new styles, and old, that I have tried out to see what would be if the style was different.
For some reference, here is the actual design of the character that would be incorporated in the animation.
The final background work is still not finished but however let us take a look with the experimented styles. The 2nd character design is mostly based on the style with 80s hard line drawing with thicker lines and using hatching as a form shading. But, despite giving the character a more serious look, I still want to retain the humorous tone of the character. At this point, a balance of serious but humour tone and expression is still achievable and could be a style I could implement in the animation.
Lastly, the semi realistic one is still much harder to get my idea around. I am still dependent on the guideline to get the facial elements right but it is a good step to learn something. Whenever I try to do anything near realistic style shading or coloring, more often times I forget what the procedure is. To rectify the problem, I would watch speedpainting from different artists just to recap and refresh my mind. It helps me observe the process and try to replicate the similar steps in my drawing. Here is one video I always come back to looking at for a recap.

Good experimentation task. Its always useful to test out ideas in different ways and methods within our work as it helps us to discover new techniques and processes.
